Fiona Simpkin

Hello, I’m Fiona.

I’m a Sydney-based counsellor who works with people from all backgrounds and faiths to develop personal insight and find hope for change in the most challenging areas of life. If you feel stuck, or you’ve had a nagging feeling that you should talk to someone, counselling may be a starting point, so please feel free to get in touch.

Fiona was an excellent counsellor. She helped me walk through my anxiety, and stepped me through the feelings to find the root cause. She was kind, warm and gentle, but wasn’t afraid to dig deep with me. I am very thankful for her, and cannot recommend her more highly.

My Approach

00 Personal EDIT.jpg

Personal

Feeling understood and heard is at the heart of effective counselling. When trust is established we have the have confidence to share what has perhaps never been safe to share. Our most important session is the first one, where my hope is that you sense a warm connection and feel genuinely heard. Your identity, personal details, and records will be kept confidential.

00 Practical EDIT.jpg

Practical

The work we do on ourselves is not only helpful for current challenges, but is an investment in future relationships. I use an integrated approach which draws on Bowen Family Systems Theory, Trauma Informed Care, and contemporary psychodynamic thinking to help us understand challenges in the context of our family and backgrounds. A range of practical, achievable and effective take-home tools and skills to help make change a reality.

00 Hopeful EDIT.jpg

Hopeful

Hope is perhaps the most powerful human characteristic. Hope keeps us going through life’s challenges, enhances mental strength, builds resilience, gives us perspective and helps us to be kinder to ourselves and more generous in our relationships. Clients often describe a sense of hope just by making their first appointment. Hope gives us the courage to change for our own well-being and for the good of those around us.
